Campaign office

October 31st 2006 07:28
Well, I got out of the house today for the first time in three days and * me was happy *! I actually had some small amount of discipline for once and got out of bed when I said I would (still quite late but earlier than I have been, so, ya know, baby steps) and got ready in record time, got on the computer for 45 minutes or so, and managed to take a beautiful walk all before sunset at 5. Since I was having trouble doing this very recently before sunset at 6, I think it's pretty good that I was able to do it before sunset at 5. Especially because I have been getting up ridiculously late lately but what can I say my rational brain is without a doubt not working when I first wake up and all I can think about is going back to sleep. Undoubtedly a little thing called having a life might help me with that a little, but that's a subject for another day and another time for sure. *tweaks button in brain, turns thought off*

It was a beautiful walk because it was warm enough to not need a sweatshirt, which I LOVE - I love feeling the air on my bare arms, makes me feel so alive, so stiffled when I have the sweatshirt on - and the walk to the end of the street ( it is a VERY LONG street, takes 30 min to walk to the end and back) felt like it took pretty much no time at all. Sunny, a little windy but not too much. Heard some good songs which I of course sung along to very loudly, one benefit of living in the middle of nowhere is you can sing as loudly as you want. Of course, then I saw someone sitting outside their house and ran past as quickly as possible so as to save myself from further embarassment. Which gave me nostalgic memories of doing the same thing in school, hehe. Weird thing -- I saw some SHEEP at someone's house. I thought they were stuffed statues at first, a weird Halloween decoration, but then they moved. So. Weird, because it wasn't a farm, and they make rather odd household pets. A friend of mine used to have sheep years ago - we took a walk with one once just around the neighborhood - I will always remember that.

Anyway, I wanted to get a better look at the sheep, but I was too busy runnung past the house so I didn't have to see the look on the face of the person sitting there as I sang country songs at the top of my lungs. Hehe. The joy of being noncomformist sometimes - which reminds me of a very appropriate thing I heard on the radio just about then - "it is illegal," they said, "to be a noncomformist who conforms to the noncomformist norms at the time" Haha I thin they have a point.

Okay, now I'm getting sleepy, and, AS USUAL, I haven't even gotten to the good part of the day yet.

Dang my habit of going in chronological order lol.

At around 5 (exactly when I planned it I might add, that doesnt usually happen) I called Evi to come take mto the campaign office to volunteer. First we went into town and I got a prescription at the grocery store that I needed, and some groceries, which made me relieved to have. We had dinner at Subway, and some very nice conversation which I enjoyed. The social interaction means so much to me, just to be able to sit down at a table with someone not related to me and carry on a conversation - just a wonderful, sometimes even magical, feeling.

They were playing Frank, too, ( the radio station) who was actually playing decent song for once. We both hummed along to Me and Bobby McGee. Yeah Janis Joplin.

We got to the office about 8. Oh I forgot somethinhg. I got some awesome Halloween candy at the store. Eyeballs, toes, fingers, other body parts in chocolate, hehe, I decided her office could use some Halloween spirit, and it made me laugh, which is the important part. I also got a red plastic pitchfork for $2, well, because I could. lol and I was nostalgic for a time when Halloween really meant something to me. Evi thought they were funny though and so did Lu and that's what matters too because I love, love making people laugh. I love laughing WITH them. I think mutually laughing with someone, ( at someting funny not to hurt someone) has got to be one of the best damn feelings in the freaking world and doesn't happen NEARLY enough - but I treasure it whenever it does happen. Used to happen a lot more in school of course. Even there of course rare but more often.

Okay too many details I have to finish this lol *yawn* its only 2am and Im tired? Ha.

So anyway around 8 I started making phone calls asking if people had any questions about Lu, were going to vote for her, etc. Which I liked for the most part because I for the most part in the right situations like talking to people. And it reminded me of working at Critical Insights too [market researching firm]. I only talked to about six people, about half of whom were nice and the other half whom were not so much, but it was all okay. Finshed my packet of calls by 9.

Then started to do some postcards, and Justin called. Which totally made my night. I love talking to him. He had knee surgery today, ouch, but seemed in rather decent spirits despite it, or else was covering it well. I dont envy him what he had to go thru today. Talking to him is another thing that makes me feel connected and normal and human. We fit each other so well and the conversation seems so natural, which it NEVER seems with anyone for the most part. On December 9 it will be the one year anniversary of when we met, I realized tonight. So anyway we talked for ten minutes and then he went to rest and I went to do some more work.

Lu came back at that point, and I did some data entry with Lu for a while. I was getting pretty tired by that point but wanted to finish the data entry section we were working on. I was getting close to the point of losing my patience when it got to be around 11 or 11:30 but luckily held it together.
I was tired and my brain was fried by then. But I was proud that we managed to get it done. I like working with her to do the data entry, we fit well together, it seems seamless, she reads the stuff off and I enter it and I love the feeling of being part of a team.

Anyway we finally left at about midnight. So I was there about four hours which felt good. I enjoyed talking to Lu in the car on the way back, I thought I'd be too tired to talk but she energizes me. I put the groceries away when I got home and then went to rest a bit.

Gonna go back tomorrow most likely. Gonna do someting with Dad when cleaning lady comes dont know what although im slightly afraid that he'll want to go grocery shopping. Whatever we'll see what happens. Don't plan too far ahead or else you'll drive yourself crazy.

I really enjoy the company of both Evi and Lu, and I'm lucky in that regard. I most likely wouldn't do this, wouldn't volunteer, if I didn't like the people I was working with. I'm not so much attached to the issues, I just like being part of something meaningful and being able to help people in some way.

Last Wednesday I worked on the script for the phone calls with Lu, I was there five hours and stayed till past 1am! Election is in a week, which in a way is a shame cus I'd like to help more, wish I had found her earlier and all but am glad Heidi introduced us so I could have this week or 10 days to be able to do what I am doing.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everybody. I regrettably won't be doing much to celebrate but I will be eating candy and I think everybody should at least do this much. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
