Introducing myself
October 9th 2006 20:22
Hello!
My name is Kate, and I am 22 years old. I live in a small town in Maine. And I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high functioning form of autism. People with AS often are highly intelligent but have trouble with social nuance, understanding social cues, social language, making friends, things of that nature. They often have highly developed special interests and also struggle with sensory issues: things are too bright, too tight, too loud, etc. They are highly loyal and dedicated, though, and very honest and trustworthy.
I am currently living at home and figuring out what I want to do with my life, what I want to do next. I went to college for three and a half years, and then had to leave in my last semester due to to sensory issues. Mainly too much perfume on campus! Humidity was getting to me too - I went to college in Baltimore. I do intend to graduate and finish at some point but I am not sure when.
So I am living at home and figuring out what to do . I don't drive, and I live out in the middle of nowhere. There is nowhere to walk to and no public transportation. Needless to say, after about five months of this, I am quite sick of it - I only get out of the house when my parents take me. They do the best they can but their lives are not conducive to taking me very many places at this time, so I sit in the house a lot.
I love country and oldies music and radio... taking walks... reading, writing..... and learning more about autism. I have read to date 34 books on autism related subjects - a dozen or so by people who on the autistic spectrum, a dozen or so by parents of ASD kids, and then some informational books and novels.
Well, that's all for now, I look forward to getting to know you all.
Kate

Nice to meet you in that non-met way that we now non-meet over the net …
I started to worry reading your first post that I might have Aspergers Sydnrome but then I got to the part where you talk about loyalty, honesty and trustworthiness. I definitely don’t have it …
I was curious as to whether there are any online universities which can offer you the same course as the one you were doing in Baltimore …
And I’m sure you’ll find some friends on this site …
Looking forward to reading more of your posts …

I'm from Melbourne, Australia but don't hold that against me.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to reply on my blog or yours so forgive me if I do it wrong. What is the protocol here?
I won't hold it against you. Im just curious. I have nothing against Australia.
You guys are 14 hrs ahead...you get to see the future lol. Plus, you have really good candy, an Aussie friend of mine sent me some Aussie candy once.

I don't think there is any protocol. Not from what I've seen ... It certainly doesn't bother me one way or the other ...
I know there is some lovely eye candy at Bondi Beach ...

It was so good to read your post! My five year old son was diagnosed with asperger's a few months ago, so we have been on a bit of a learning journey together. I'll look forward to reading your posts!
